Signs Express Sheffield has helped to transform the new specialist diagnosis room at Sheffield Children’s Hospital working alongside Artfelt and a talented illustrator.
A new, life-saving Fluoroscopy Suite, which was funded thanks to the success of the Herd of Sheffield sculpture trail, has been unveiled at Sheffield Children’s Hospital with a wealth of high-quality wall art designed to distract and relax the young patients. In the suite, which was installed at the beginning of June, scanning equipment provides moving X-Ray images to help diagnose a variety of life-threatening and life-limiting conditions. The £450,000 machine has already made life-changing diagnoses, including one for Ella Sparham, 12. Mum, Claire Sparham, said: “The experience using the new equipment was fantastic. Ella was immediately put at ease by the artwork in the room, and the radiographer explained very carefully what was going to happen and what the machine did. She was so scared to come for the appointment because it is quite invasive, but everything went so well that she said she won’t be scared again”. The colourful artwork was created by illustrator Tatiana Boyko. Tatiana designed a cityscape full of houses, trees, ponds and people to provide a welcome distraction for patients and to complement the new equipment. The charming illustrations have been expertly printed by Signs Express Sheffield and applied to different surfaces across the room to create a seamless cityscape on the storage cupboards and two walls that are visible to patients from the machine. Sheffield-based signage experts, Signs Express were delighted to help Artfelt enhance the room housing the new scanner, having worked closely with them on previous projects at the local children’s hospital. Steve and Carol Morris, owners of Signs Express Sheffield, have once again spoken of their enjoyment of working with the Children’s Hospital Charity’s arts programme. “We have an excellent relationship with Artfelt and the rewards from working on projects that make such a difference for children and families visiting Sheffield Children’s Hospital goes without saying”. Steve continued, “Having the opportunity to install high-quality artwork for everyone to enjoy makes the hard work worthwhile!”
