Signs Express Worcester X worcestershire royal hospital
Signs Express Worcester are proud to announce our involvement in the launch of the brand-new emergency department at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital, opened 16th October 2023.
300+ wayfinding signs
We provided over 300 wayfinding signs for the expanded A&E, including numbered window graphics, projecting signs and a large reception sign to help staff and patients navigate the new and improved facility.
Originally opened in 2002 when it was expected to receive 45,000 admissions per year, the department has undergone an expansion costing £17.9m to help it cope with the increase in admissions to 75,000 by 2019/2020, which continued to climb during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The brand-new purpose-built unit will expand the capabilities and size of the existing A&E to provide a better environment and more privacy for patients by reducing waiting times and preventing treatment in corridors.
Adding privacy for patients
Signs Express Worcester have been delighted to provide numbered, frosted window graphics to locate the expanded number of treatment and consultation rooms and increase privacy of patients as they are treated.
Also provided was a large sign for the ‘Staff Base’, wall mounted Foamex panels and interchangeable panels to accommodate any changes to the location of specific treatment areas and a large aluminium panel on the exterior of the building, announcing the location of the new Emergency Department and Medical Same Day Emergency Care.
Headed in a new direction
With a new layout and expanded size, working to the deadline the wayfinding signage we provided will played an integral role in the successful completion and opening of the department.
Particularly as a busy public healthcare facility, effective wayfinding is a necessity to ensure safe and efficient flow of staff and timely treatment of patients.
To complete our involvement with the new department, we were delighted to provide external signage for the ambulance bay and diversion signage to make sure patients found the new unit.
Finally, for the inside, as part of a wider push to upgrade the Worcestershire Royal Hospital’s interior signage, we also improved the slatz signage in the main reception area.
Testimonial from Lorraine Shellam – Director, SX Worcester
As part of a wider push to upgrade the Worcestershire Royal Hospital’s interior signage, the team are continuing to work with the hospital, Lorraine commented: “We were so proud to be involved with this project and to be a supplier to the Trust. We’re looking forward to installing further signage to the main reception area later this month so that patients, visitors, and staff will find it easier to navigate the hospital as a whole.”
