Signs Express (Aberdeen) was approached by the European Tour and asked if they were willing to undertake some work within a short timescale, ready for golfing tournament, The Scottish Open, at Royal Aberdeen golf club.
The first requirement was for a life-size (6'4') standee of last year's winner Phil Mickelson with prints on both sides. This needed to be able to withstand the winds on the golf course, not be damaged if hit by a golf ball and not injure a golfer if their ball hit it and rebounded. Secondly the sign makers were asked to wrap a model of a dolphin. The dolphin is part of an exhibition by the Wild Dolphin Trust and will be one of 50 fibreglass dolphin sculptures around Aberdeen which have been decorated by local artists, along with some smaller ones which have been decorated by schools. Following the exhibition, the dolphins will be auctioned for the Archie Foundation (Aberdeen Royal Children's Hospital). The Foundation had given the European Tour a small dolphin to have coloured initially, this was completed using Avery Supreme Wrapping Film, and then be signed by the winning player and presented to the main sponsor of the event, Aberdeen Asset Management. Signs Express (Aberdeen) was delighted to be involved and managed to turn the project around within a very short timescale, the standee needed to be ready in one day and the dolphin in four. The European Tour was extremely pleased with the finished results which formed part of the media for the event. You can see the standee in use in the video here and read more about the Archie Foundation here. Signs Express (Aberdeen) was opened by franchisee Jim Gifford in 1996 and has grown to offer a wide range of signs and graphics solutions to businesses in Aberdeenshire.
