Alice Dowle, Apprentice Sign Maker at Signs Express (Exeter), has been nominated as a finalist in the British Signs and Graphics Association’s Young Signmaker of the Year award.
Alice, who has worked at the Exeter branch of the leading UK franchise for the past two years, first joined the team at 17 years of age with no previous sign-making experience. However, with her incredible drive and dedication, Alice soon became familiar with all aspects of production and installation to become an invaluable part of the team. She is the acknowledged ‘go to’ person for several customer accounts and has developed a particular specialism in full-colour work. Marion Baxter-Sibley, Director of Signs Express (Exeter), put Alice forward for the award and stated, “Alice has impressed us at every turn. In the two years she has spent here, she has proven her ability to learn new skills and develop herself. She recently acted as Production Manager for two days whilst other staff were away and managing a team of 8 experienced signmakers is quite a feat for someone so young.” Alice has played an important role in many prestigious projects whilst she has been at Signs Express (Exeter), including a large vehicle graphics order for South West Water. Additionally, in 2016, Alice produced artwork, manufactured signs and was a member of the install team for a large project at Exeter Guildhall Shopping Centre, which involved all manner of signage from hoardings to window graphics. Alice was excited by the prospect of being nominated as a finalist in the awards, saying “I’ve being enjoying becoming part of the team here at Signs Express and have learnt a lot quickly, with plenty of opportunity to apply things practically. I feel honoured to have become a finalist and am looking forward to the awards ceremony.” Alice goes up against three other young signmakers in the UK finals, including James Stuchbury from Signs Express (Sheffield). The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on November 9th at the Athena Events Centre, located in the heart of Leicester’s cultural quarter. Good luck to all of the nominees.
