Signs Express Glasgow were approached by our longstanding client Cole AD to provide modern and engaging signage for the new Glasgow premises of Mary’s Meals, a charity that provides school meals for chronically hungry children in developing countries.
Mary’s Meals was started in 1992 by brothers Magnus and Fergus MacFarlane Barrow to help victims of the war in Bosnia. This year they announced helping over half a million children with good nutrition and access to education.
Mary’s Meals management were keen to acknowledge the foundation of the charity and recreate ‘Calum’s shed’ at Craig Lodge, Dalmally, Argyle & Bute – a corrugated tin shed where the charity was started and played host to its international headquarters.
The solution provided by Signs Express Glasgow included a range of signage, including an old version of the Mary’s Meals logo using reclaimed wood from the Argyll Forest, backed on a traditional ‘aged’ rustic corrugate steel sheet.
After considering numerous different specification options, we supplied and installed freestanding letters on Spigots for the words “Little Acts of Love” and wrapped all office doors in their iconic, corporate blue. We also supplied full colour stretch fabric graphics and full colour wall graphics, bespoke clocks & floor graphics.
A particularly unique aspect of the project was the bespoke production of the Rice-o-meter. This is a visual measurement of a single meal provided by Mary’s Meals, each grain of rice represents a mouth fed. For this completely bespoke product, Signs Express Glasgow utilised clear acrylic tubing and rear trays to mount the acrylic, all incremental points to rear, complete with fully accessible ‘Fill & Release’ caps.
Our team were delighted to work alongside Cole AD for such an important, world-renowned charity, and proud that our contributions in this project earned us a ‘Best Interior Sign’ award at the Sign Awards in 2020.
