Our Work
Met Office
Signs Express (Exeter) have worked with the Met Office's in-house design team to produce bespoke signage for the Met Office since 2003, when the organisation relocated it's headquarters from Bracknell to Exeter.
Signs Express (Exeter) have been able to assist the Met Office with their sign requirements at both their Exeter HQ and throughout the UK by utilising the unique geographical spread and capabilities of the branch network which, in many cases, are positioned in close proximity to Met Office locations. The use of the Signs Express branch network has offered efficiency, cost and environmental benefits with much work being completed locally to the point of delivery whilst the Met Office also have a central point of contact at Signs Express in Exeter. Breadth of Work Undertaken The first job completed was the award winning main entrance sign for the new premises, but since then work has encompassed a whole range of signage including vehicle graphics, exhibition and display items, health & safety signage and wayfinding signage as well as branding at many locations. Recent Projects Most recently Signs Express have worked on a number of projects within the Met Office HQ to revitalise internal branding that is on constant display to a wide range of staff, national & international visitors, as well as potentially a global audience through TV broadcasts. These include: Main Reception Area Graphics The purpose of this project was to provide an eye-catching image visible to everyone arriving at the Met Office that would also shield diners in the restaurant area from the main reception area whilst not blocking all light out. To achieve this, graphics covering an area approximately 7m x 4m were installed. This was a particularly challenging installation as an internal stream runs directly in front of the area where the graphics were installed. Signs Express (Exeter) were able to comply with all the health & safety requirements that arose from this location and complete the install successfully, working out of hours to minimise disruption at this key location in the building. 'Street' Meeting room graphics The purpose of this project was to take the opportunity of providing updated brand and educational messages whilst providing privacy to meeting room occupants. This was achieved using cutting edge printing of double-sided window graphics with white primer. Clear-vision window films maintained visibility out of the rooms whilst also maintaining some inward visibility which was a requirement for health & safety reasons. Signs Express ( Exeter ) liaised closely with the Met Office to trial different printing approaches to ensure the end result was just as required. Operations Centre Graphics The purpose of this project was to provide a display system for the Met Office's new Operations Centre. The system used needed to have the capacity to be updated, showcase key areas of operations and be visible for broadcasting from the operations centre at times of extreme weather events. This was achieved using a bespoke display system comprising curved desk fronts and suspended divider screens formed from polished acrylic. The system was magnetic allowing graphics to be easily changed as required in the future.
